Short I and Long E

If everyone laughs when you ask for a sheet of paper or say that you enjoyed the beach, chances are that you have a problem with this. This is especially true of Europeans.

The solution is relatively simple: i is a short sound and ee or ea is usually held for a longer time.

Most common mistakes:

1   fill & feel
2   his & He's
3   hit & heat
4   is & ease
5   lives & leaves
6   ship & sheep
7   sit & seat
8   slip & sleep
9   stir & steer
10   will & wheel

Other mistakes:

bit & beet, bird & beard, chip & cheap, did & deed, filled & field, fit & feet, hid & he'd, hill & heel, hit & heat, it & eat, itch & each, mill & meal, pick & peak, pitch & peach, rich & reach, sick & seek, sin & scene or seen, still & steel, this & these, whip & weep, winner & wiener
